Middle School Progress

The middle school did such a wonderful job with the ELA exams, we are truly proud of them! For the month of February the middle school students have decided to act as "mentors" towards the elementary school (bridging the gap)....They are writing weekly letters to the elementary school students focusing on Black History Month...Each middle school student has a new elementary pen pal in the school! This project is an integration of Language Arts & Social Studies It is constructive and cooperative learning. We will also be posting a bulletin board by Ms. Claudio's room of the letters, responses and pics of the pen pals!!!They absolutely LOVE IT! With these letters all students are learning proper letter writing techniques, as well as the history of some of the greatest African American role models to have ever lived. With fun and creativity we are spreading the love and knowledge of writing and teaching within our own school environmnet.

Middle School

The month of December is a cheerful month filled with joy, love and the spirit of giving. Our middle school is embracing this spirit with several planned charitable activities. They are writing letters to the soldiers in Iraq , creating cards for the Downey Side Families for Youth Orphanage and collecting supplies for homeless emergency kits.

Also, our entire middle school will be participating in a gingerbread contest on December 19th. The gingerbread houses will be made by the students completely from "scratch". Prizes will be awarded to the best constructed houses. The children will also be exchanging their "Secret Blesser" gifts on Dec. 19th our last day of school for the 2008 school year. As you can see the spirit of Christmas is alive and well here at Upper Room Christian School as we continue growing up in Christ spirit, soul and body.

Sincerely,
The URCS Middle School Team

Middle School ELA

I am so excited that Upper Room Christian School's Middle School ELA (English Language Arts) program has been modified for the 2008-2009 school year to fully meet all of the student requirements necessary to excel on the New York State exams! All middle school students will meet with me weekly during class time to focus on their individual strengths and weaknesses. The students will also be involved in an intense reader's and writer's program to increase their written communication skills. This program will allow students to gain a thorough understanding through numerous engaging activities using all of the skills needed to succeed on the NYS ELA exam!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Rotziokos

Enrollment for 5th-12th Grades

Dear Parents of 5th - 12th Grade Students:

On behalf of the faculty, staff and school administration, I wish to sincerely welcome you and your family to Upper Room Christian School! At this educational institution, we strive to create a Spirit-controlled, disciplined academic environment, where your child can "grow up in Christ, spirit, soul and body".

We want to insure that your child will be successful in our school, especially if they are entering our high school. Your child's academic records, medical records. and standardized test scores for the past three years must be obtained from your child's previous school before an admissions interview can be conducted. At the interview, we will discuss your child's projected schedule, as well as our academic requirements for graduation.

Please be advised that your child will be interviewed by Pastor Dono, the Assistant Principal and Dean of Students, as well as by me. Admission decisions for students in grades 6-12 are based on the results of these interviews. In addition, students entering grades 5-12 are required to take the reading and math portions of the Stanford Achievement Test (a well-known standardized test) at our school, to verify their proper grade placement at Upper Room Christian School.

We sincerely thank you for your interest in our school. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me at (631) 242-5359, ext. 218.

Yours in Christ,
Pastor Gregory P. Eck
Principal
