School Safety

Today we had our 5th Fire Drill. Fire Drills are an integral part of our schools safety plan. The first two are announced and instructions are given to the students and staff prior to the alarm being sounded. The next 4 are unannounced. We try to stay under 2 minutes for the complete evacuation of our building. We do 6 by Mid October and then another 4 (1 announced) between March and May.

Student safety and school security are a primary concern here at Upper Room Christian School! We have 32 closed circuit digital camera's that are monitored during school hours and record 24/7. We do bus drills twice a year, 10 fire drills a year and 1 emergency evacuation each year. We are also a part of the Suffolk County Emergency Alert System which allows the fire/rescue and police to contact us and us to contact them using a special 800MHz Trunked Radio System.

We also do bully prevention classes, classes regarding proper sexual behavior, conflict resolution, substance abuse classes which include "say no to tobacco, drugs and alcohol"  and do periodic locker searches.

As a result we are blessed to say that in over 33 years we have never had a student injured due to a fight or an emergency in school, never had a substance or gang related problem and do not have a problem with bullying or sexual misconduct on campus.

College Fair 2014

We are please to announce our College Fair will be taking place on Monday, October 6th in our lobby. We have 18 colleges that will be represented so far. This event is open to the public.

College Fairs are a great way to introduce students of all ages to different options concerning Colleges. The Bible says that without a vision the people perish. It is a good practice for parents to start talking about College early and even put up posters in the student's room of colleges they may be interested in. The Bible says to write the vision down and make it plain so that they that see it may run with it.

Getting a vision of College in the mind of your child starting in the 5th or 6th grade will begin an expectation and anticipation in their life for the future. It will also help them to tie their learning to a goal. Lastly, it will teach them the importance of planning and crystallizing their goals because people don't plan to fail but sometimes fail to plan.

8th - 12th Grade Glow Party!!

We had an awesome time at our 2014 Glow Party for our 8th - 12th Grades last Saturday evening! The purpose of the party was for the students to get to know each other and bond early in the year in a fun, social environment. The school staff came out, the students were out in force and we had a DJ, dance floor, laser lights, glow sticks, photo booth and delicious catered food. Everything that makes up a great party! We even had a cake wishing the students a successful year!

Morale is an important part of what separates a good school from a great school. While it's all about the education, not all education takes place in a classroom. There are trips, parties, sports and after school activities that all contribute to the overall moral of the school.

We are now looking forward to this Saturday where we will meet our K-7th graders at Adventure Land for a fun day at the park......pictures to follow!!

Christian Education

These bulletin  boards help demonstrate some of the value of Christian Education! The teacher is expressing her faith in her student's ability, her desire to hear them deeply, her concern and care for them and her love.

The students are reminded daily that they are alive, holy, wise, blessed, victorious, bold, free and righteous in Christ! These boards would be considered unacceptable in our present public education system! The environment in a Christian School is much more loving, safe and encouraging. The students are taught to love themselves, love others and love God with the same if not a higher level of academic and athletic emphasis that is presently found in our public school system.

This is a collage of shots from the first two days of our "Spirit Week"! Spirit week is when the students dress up in different themes each day to increase school spirit and camaraderie. It culminates this year with a "White Out" party on Saturday evening from 7:30-10:30 where the students will come dressed in white and the room will be lit by black lights. Everyone will glow as we enjoy food, music and fellowship!
