Graduate Oscar Martinez and Security Officer Mrs. Gregg are greeting each other at our main office entrance. All visitors are asked to sign in and receive a visitor's pass. They are also advised that Upper Room Christian School is a NYS Safe School Zone and as such anyone's cars, bags or personel items can be inspected if the school deems it necessary. We also maitain over 25 closed circuit TV's that monitor our halls and exits 24/7.
You can also see our AED sign denoting the locations of our two Automatic External Difibulators. Safety and Security is a primary concern here at Upper Room and while we take it very seriously you can see by the photo that we do it with grace and peace!
Visitors are welcomed with a smile and we go out of our way to accomodate both families from the school as well as community members that may be passing through for business or information. We thank God for His wisdom and protection and we rejoice that we have not had one major incident of violence resulting in an injury or further reporting to NYS in 30 years! We can truly say that we have one of the safest schools on Long Island.

Ed

Security
While Upper Room Christian School is one of the safest schools on Long Island we are glad to have staff like Mrs. Rielly keeping our hallways clear and safe. The kids love her and nothing escapes her watchful eyes. We also have Mrs. Gregg and 24 closed circuit digital camera's recording 24/7.
Our students come from good homes in over 14 different school districts and they come to be in a safe and loving environment where they don't have to be worried about drugs, gangs or violence. We are large enough to provide our students with all of the athletic and social opportunities of a bigger school yet small enough to give personalized attention where no one "slips between the cracks".
We also have a closed campus. Students arrive at 8am and leave at 3pm. We provide advanced placement and college level courses as well as several electives for our Juniors and Seniors so their day is full. We have our hot lunch program catered so the students don't have to leave and we don't have to be concerned with them getting back to school safely.

What are Parents Saying About Upper Room Christian School #5

Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Jones recently said, " We send our son to Upper Room Christian School because it is a safer, more controlled environment. We LOVE the fact that it is a Christian school and that they teach the children the same morals that we were taught as children and that are hard to find today."
"Our son experiences a great music program on a daily basis. That was not available to him in public school. I have always nurtured his musical talents but since he's been in Upper Room I have really seen his talent blossom!"
"The uniforms provide a non existant need to fight because someone is dressed better than someone else. There are no metal detectors and no security guards. It's safe!"
The Jones' son is in 8th Grade.

Is Upper Room Christian School a Safe Place for Your Child?
Safety is always a paramount concern for parents. At first, we think of physical safety and
security. That’s because we have become accustomed to the TV images of metal detectors at school entrances and airports. We’ve heard about the tragedies at shopping malls over the Christmas season. Security can mean that buildings have controlled access and diligence and authority is practiced by personnel. At Upper Room we take information and security training seriously and attend NYS and Homeland Security courses annually. The school has over 29 closed circuit digital cameras monitoring the perimeter, halls and rooms. They are overseen by our security people from 7am-10pm and continue to record throughout the night. We are hotwired to both our local police and fire department which is a quarter of a mile away. We participate in SCAN Suffolk County Alert Network and can communicate instantly with emergency services via e-mail and phone.

It can also mean that physical and verbal bullying will not be tolerated on school grounds or
public venues. Because Upper Room Christian School is smaller and much more personal, it is generally safer because every student is well known by teachers and staff. But, we know there are exceptions – everyone must still be vigilant. Students should be watched and questioned to be sure that health social relationships are being formed. This should happen at home as well as at school. Erratic changes in behavior should be observed and addressed.

However, there is another security to consider; emotional and spiritual. Each morning we pray that the angel of the Lord would encamp around our school to protect and keep us safe. Your child is prayed for over and over throughout the day and beyond because we know that our Holy God is the ultimate protector. Find another school where every aspect of your child’s security is addressed.
You've found Upper Room Christian School where your faith and the classroom have the perfect intersection.
