This is a picture of a 4th grade music class. Miss Mary Ellen Flynn is one of our music teachers and she is conducting a music theory class. Elementary students receive music instruction twice a week. One class is theory and the other is practice with recorders.
Miss Mary also oversees our school choir and lead vocalists. They minister in our weekly chapel services as well as performing in local rehabilitation centers, senior centers and other schools whenever possible. Miss Mary also oversees our after school private music lessons.
Music is an important part of a students overall growth. We all enjoy music and these classes give the students insight as to how music is composed and performed. Music is another vehicle for the students to express their creativity and involves language and math skills. Music also fosters working together as a small or large group. Perhaps most importantly most students look forward to their music classes and their opportunity to perform and many go on to study or play throughout their lifetime.
Blessings,
Ed

Music Performance
At Upper Room Christian School we have a robust music program as well plenty of opportunity for our students to perform. We have a Chapel service once a week, several shows and even opportunities outside of the school.
Our band and choir minister for the holidays at senior citizen centers as well as hospitals and we love to be able to bless those that can't come out for a show or service. Our teachers teach our students how to perform and minister as well as teaching them how to be excellent on their instrument or in their vocals. We teach music theory and composition.
Our band and choir has been featured on MSG Varsity and our students have also competed in the NYSMA competitions. Mr. Holder and Ms. Flynn do a great job each year of replacing students that graduate with incoming students and maintain a viable band and choir from year to year. Some students go on to major in music in College and some have even received substantial scholarships to schools like Boston College, Berkley and Five Towns.
Grace and Peace,
Ed
