National Association of Negro Business and Professional Womens Club Scholarship

We just got some awesome news about another one of our seniors! Elyssa Thomas won the top scholarship from the Mid-Island Club of the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Clubs, Inc. called the Florence Allen Holmes Scholarship Award and its for $2,500! They are having a luncheon this Saturday, May 4 from 12-4 at Captain Bill's, 122 Ocean Avenue, Bay Shore, NY. The tickets are $65. 

This was sent to me by Elyssa's mom, Pastor Adrienne Thomas. We here at Upper Room Christian School are so proud of Elyssa and all of our 28 graduates as they have received acceptance into the colleges of their choice and the scholarships keep coming!

Urban Word Full Scholarship to St. John's University

This is a picture of one of Upper Room Christian School's seniors Ramya Ramana at Madison Square Garden in NYC. She won a full four year scholarship to St. John's University! This is what she had to say about it.

"This was a picture of last night in the suitebox for the scholarship from Urban Word. I'm posting this because this is something that was considered possible only in my dreams. I've been through 6 different schools/education programs in the past 4 1/2 years. I have been told many times, not only
by peers but teachers, principals, and other authority figures that I would not graduate on time and that  I was not stable enough to go to 'regular' school. I've also been told by "Christian" schools that I was not allowed to attend their school because of my mental/emotional disability, or because I was not "stable enough for their school".

There are countless amount of people and blocks I've had to face and at one point I was even considering dropping out of high school. I do not say this for sympathy, in fact, this is really hard for me to share since I've become very private about my personal life but I feel that there are people who still feel trapped and isolated within this false notion of not being able to achieve or excel  in the future or not being able to grow as a person. This is to show that if God did this for me, He can do it for anybody.

Growth and change is never easy, but the victory is always worth it all. I want to thank the people who loved me unconditionally and allowed me to grow as a person and have taught me humility and loving kindness. It is because of you guys that I truly believe God's love can change the world. I want to thank Erica Fabri and Urban Word, without you this would still be a dream and nothing else, and everybody at UDUB showed me what family means and I could never thank anybody enough for that. Thank God, for believing in me, for using a broken person like me and carving blessings into my life. He is forever good and trust in Him because there are plenty of  times where I felt alone and wanted to give up, but He never gave up on me. And to all the people and authorities who looked down on me or who judged me, thank you, for teaching me to strive harder and motivating me to dream bigger. #Blessed"

Annual Golf Outing

Upper Room Christian School will be hosting our first annual Golf Outing to benefit our Athletic Department. We will be having the outing at the beautiful Mill Pond Golf Course in Medford, New York on Monday May 13, 2013 at 7:45am. We will be having a shot gun start and the event includes, Greens Fee, Cart Fee, Range Balls, Continental Breakfast and a two hour All You Can Eat BBQ Lunch after we play!

Prizes will be awarded for the Closest to the Pin, Longest Drive and Best Score. We will also be having a 50/50 raffle, Silent Chinese Auction and a live Auction of Awesome Sports Memorabilia! Tickets are $150 for a single or $500 for a foursome. We also have some great sponsorship packages available!

Our School's Promotional Video

This is a video that was produced for our school by one of our graduates. Nathaniel Nunziante graduated Upper Room Christian School and went on with a scholarship to NYU to study film production. He produced, directed, filmed and edited this awesome promotional video for the school he attended from pre-school.

As you can see from the video, we have a great school that is staffed by knowledgeable and loving staff. We have plenty of things going on spiritually, academically and physically. The video is just a brief synopsis of what goes on here at Upper Room Christian School each day for the past 32 years.

Since his graduation Nathaniel has gone into business for himself and is the owner of Intrigue Studio a full service production company that features both on-site and studio productions throughout the tri-state area. The video he did for us allows people to get a glimpse of what God is doing here at Upper Room Christian School and provides an online tour of the school!

Upper Room Christian School is a New York State Regents School.
We offer an innovative developmental elementary program that focuses on Spiritual, Social and Academic growth providing small class size with low student/teacher ratios.  We have a complete academic program that includes Art, Dance, Music and Technology as well as several Advanced Placement classes for High School students accredited through St. Johns University. We offer competitive sports programs and are the the Boys Varsity Baseball and have been Basketball Champions for the IPSSAL League.  We occasionally compete in both the NYSMA and SCMEA Music Programs.

Classical Concert at Chapel

We are so excited to have the School of Mahanaim coming this Friday, February 22nd to do a classical concert for our Chapel Service. The School of Mahanaim is a Music, Theology and ESL College located in Huntington and founded on Christian principals.

Mahanaim is first mentioned by the Bible as the place where Jacob, returning from Padan-aram to southern Canaan, had a vision of angels (Genesis 32:2). Jacob's realization that the place was "God's camp", led him to name the place Mahanaim - Two Camps, or Two Companies, to memorialize the occasion of his own company sharing the place with God's. The word is also used in the Song of Solomon in reference to a dance. Song of Solomon 6:13.

We are so pleased to have these students, most originally from Asia, come to our school and share their testimonies as well as their music. The School of Mahanaim has connections with some of Asia's premier classical musicians, composers and conductors. Our Asian students will especially like seeing older students from Asia studying and performing here in the United States just like they are.

High School Baseball

Upper Room Royal's Varsity Baseball Website

The link above will take you to the Upper Room Christian School Royal's Varsity Baseball Team. Varsity sports are very important here at Upper Room. Varsity sports help to build character  sportsmanship, community and a good work ethic. Varsity sports also give students opportunity for athletic scholarships to excellent colleges and universities.

Our new baseball site includes our schedule, scores, stats, roster, news, photos and much more. Our baseball program has national attention and we send players on to Division 1, Division 2 schools and we even sent one student to the MLB! This new site will enable coaches and players from around the country to keep in touch and follow what our program and players are up to.

International Students

This is a featured video done by FIOS Channel 1 anchor man Mike Stevens about the robust International Student program at Upper Room Christian School. In it he interviews several students from China, Korea and Europe as well as the Principal and Head Master of the school.

As an I-20 approved school Upper Room attracts students from all over the world making it a truly multi-cultural environment for students to learn in. We have a strong ESL class and provide educational trips to immerse the overseas students in the American culture and way of life.

The combination of I-20 students and local students create a global atmosphere for students to share their ideas and cultures enriching the learning environment and modeling our global economy. It's wonderful to go into the lunch room and see students from all over the world talking, laughing and making lifetime connections!

Taekwondo

Upper Room Christian School is proud to partner with Premier Taekwondo in offering an awesome after school program. The club meets twice a week and they work on forms, self defense, weapons and physical fitness. The begin and end each session with prayer and a scripture meditation.

The program runs in 10 week intervals and belt promotions are held twice a year at Premier's studio in North Babylon. Master Rob Gravel and his instructors do a great job with the students. They are firm but gentle and compassionate. They take the time to get to know each student and their strengths and weakness.

At the end of the year the club's students attend our school's annual sports banquet at the beautiful Chatteau Le Mer in Lindenhurst where we have a motivational speaker come and address all of our athletes and the athletes receive their awards while enjoying a wonderful four course meal with their family and friends.

College Acceptances

Four of our seniors have just been accepted to their college of choice! Scmidt Vigne will be going to Bridgeport University, Brian Wilson will be going to Hampton University, Joseph Frank will be going to Virginia State and Daren Damas will be going to Maryland Eastern Shore.

Upper Room Christian School is all about preparing our students for either college, trade school, the military service or the family business. Our goal is to produce students that are competent, caring and ready to take on the challenges of life. We provide solid guidance counseling, college and career fairs as well as career education to help our students choose and prepare for the vocation of their dreams.

We also help our families in the application process and try to provide families with various scholarship opportunities as well as helping them complete the FAFSA forms and the exploration of work/study and internships. Looks like the graduation of 2013 will be another banner year for Upper Room Graduates!
