Powder Puff Football at Upper Room Christian School
The girls are practicing and we are excitedly looking forward to our first Powder Puff Flag Football game of the year. Former San Francisco 49er and New Orleans Saints fullback Jason Isom and his dad former Long Island football coach John Isom are working with our girls, teaching them the fundamentals of the game.
The girls love the competition and the school loves to come out for this exciting event. The girls split up into intramural teams and the competition high as the teachers, staff and students cheer them on.
Athletics and Physical Education are important here at Upper Room and we are so pleased to have hired a new PE teacher this year. David Waller is a graduate of Old Dominion University with a Bachelor's degree in sports management.

Spoken Word Past Present Future
This is an excerpt of a Spoken Word given during one of our Friday Chapel Services by one of our senior's Nadia Prescott.
"They say your past shapes your future
Every memory, every breath, every moment.
A post card placed in a box of remembrance.
Old experiences linger in the air,
Past decisions, remnants of what you once were.
A broken record of words uttered years ago,
Still setting your future in motion.
In life there are doors.
One opening up to reveal another waiting patiently to be unlocked.
Sometimes i want to go back.
Feel palm of hands wrap around cold brass.
Unlock every door, retrace my steps.
Do it all over again. Rewrite my story.
White out my wrongs.
The past is the past.
The world keeps spinning, and time keeps turning.
Autumn leaves do not stop, in perpetual motion.
As we walk by, they continue to fall.
There are some things in which we have no power at all.
These doors are closed, eviction sign still in sight.
You are not your past.
In God all things are made new.
No mind could understand or explain,
The future He has laid out for you.
He's on the other side of the door called forever.
Waiting to embrace you with open arms.
Your new beginning starts now.
Despite what you have been.
See, nothing is out of reach.
Greatness lies on the tip of your tongue.
hands grazed along the age of genesis,
From beginning to the end you are a part of a story.
Your mistakes, your shortcomings left you with outstretched arms,
Like a bouquet of broken bones.
How do you tell someone it's not over?
This is how. It's not over.
This is your year. It's never too late,
To be who you wanted to be.
You are limitless.
So act like it."

Internet Safety
Here is a letter that went out today to all of our parents from our computer/technology teacher.
Dear
Parents,
I
would like to welcome you to U.R.C.S. My
name is Ms. Wenzel and I am your child’s computer teacher this year. As their teacher, I feel it is my
responsibility to make sure every child is aware of the need to practice
internet safety at school, as well as at home. In your child’s class, we have
been discussing the importance of practicing safety on the internet. With
today’s technology you could never be too careful. Our children are being placed
at risk every day to a world full of strangers. Many of the games they play
online are open to the outside world. Anyone is able to log into these games at any
time and start talking and building a relationship with your child. Plus, many
of the online games they play seem to have violence laced in them. Games that
look so innocent are not! Please ask your child what their user name is, and
make sure they are not giving to much information about themselves. It is also
important to know your child’s passwords, the sites they visit and who they play
with. Limit their time online! They
need to understand they have a responsibility to themselves in keeping safe.
It
is through a further study on this topic that I was introduced to a free parent webinar. It is only 23
minutes long and I’m quite sure you will find it most informative. The website
for this parent webinar is: http://www.netsmartz.org/internetsafety
.
Also,
I will be integrating fun and exciting lessons that reinforce the lessons
already being taught within your child’s classes. Your child will be learning at
their own pace, as well as corporately on the Smart board to help with their
weaknesses and enhance their strengths. In order to make computer class more
enjoyable, I’m requesting for each child to have earbuds or a headset to be able
to hear any instructions given on the
websites.
